The conference excursion will take place after lunch on Sunday July 22, 2018. We will travel by bus to the Bygdøy peninsula in Oslo, departing from the conference venue around 13:30. Participants can choose a guided tour of one of four museums in the area, and should indicate their choice when registering. The choices are:
- The Fram Museum, centered on the exploration ship Fram, used in expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic regions by the explorers Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen: http://frammuseum.no/
- The Viking Ship Museum, containing the world’s best preserved Viking ship: http://www.khm.uio.no/english/visit-us/viking-ship-museum/
- The Kon-Tiki Museum, which contains the balsa wood raft of pre-Colombian model used by Thor Heyerdahl to cross the Pacific from South America to Polynesia: http://www.kon-tiki.no/
- Norsk Folkemuseum – The Norwegian Museum of Cultural History. This includes an open air museum containing more than 150 historic buildings relocated from many areas of Norway, including a stave church built ca. 1157-1216: https://norskfolkemuseum.no/en
Concise information can be found here.
After the guided tours there will be time to visit the other museums for those who would like so, but in this case the entrance fees are not included in the registration fees. Transportation back to the city will be by public transport, with a ticket provided by the organizers.
