Venue
ESU8 will take place in one building: Pilestredet 46 in Oslo. This is in the center of OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University. Map of the campus: http://www.hioa.no/eng/About-HiOA/Map-directions-and-premises
OsloMet is one of Norway’s largest universities, with almost 20 000 students and a staff of 2 000. It offers teacher education, nursing education, engineering degrees and many other programmes, at the bachelor, master and PhD level. While the present institution’s history started in 2011, some of the programmes are more than 100 years old.
Please note that the university got its new name in January 2018. On maps and signs, the old name “Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences” (“Høgskolen i Oslo og Akershus”) may still be found.
The venue is close to Slottsparken (the Palace Park), and is a 12 minute walk (950 metres) from the National Theatre (which is also a stop for the airport express train) and Oslo’s main street, Karl Johans gate.
Getting to the Conference
On foot
From Nationaltheatret station (12 minutes): walk Fredriks gate for 250 metres, then turn to the left to Kristian Augusts gate, which continues into Tullins gate and Holbergs gate, turn left and follow Pilestredet for 250 metres.
From Scandic Holberg hotel (4 minutes): Follow Holbergs gate for 70 metres, turn left into Pilestredet. The venue is on your right-hand side after 180 metres.
From Scandic Edderkoppen hotel (7 minutes): Follow St. Olavs gate for 100 metres, turn right into Pilestredet. You will find the venue on your right after 450 metres.
By tram
Many tram lines from the city centre stops right outside the venue at the stop Frydenlund. The tram takes less than 10 minutes from the Oslo Central Station, for instance. (If you are, for some reason, travelling in the other direction, the nearest tram stop is Holbergs plass.)
Fares
Single tickets are expensive in Oslo, especially if you buy them on board (NOK 55, as compared to NOK 33 for prepaid ticket). A 7 day card for Oslo is 240 NOK (as of July 2017). Tickets can be bought in many kiosks (Narvesen, 7-Eleven, Deli de Luca and Mix), as well as in many ticket machines and in the RuterBillett app. See https://ruter.no/en/buying-tickets/
